LAS VEGAS' ADAM NAGLICH GETS SCHOLARSHIP
TO UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA-FAIRBANKS FOR 2005-06

By Lee Samuels

From high-speed roller... to midget ice hockey... to Jr. A wars... to a scholarship in college hockey.

It's been a meteoric ride for Las Vegas skater Adam Naglich who will receive a collegiate hockey scholarship to the University of Alaska at Fairbanks in 2005-06.

"I really like the college, the coach (Guy Gadowsky) and I'm anxious to play there," said Naglich from Canada last night.

Naglich is in his second season with the Victoria Salsa Jr. A. He is working on the top line with Kyle Greentree and has hammered in 27 goals, dealt 33 assists for 60 points.

Which is amazing considering where Adam was just a few short years ago.

He was a star roller player who blazed up and down wood floors and was a good finisher at the net while in Las Vegas. He skated for Larry Sanford's Tour Rebels travel roller teams over at Crystal Palace on North Rancho drive before heading over to Rob Pallin's AA Las Vegas Mustangs midget major ice team at the Santa Fe Stations Ice Arena.

Adam was all of 16. Yet, he played a starring role, working on the Mustangs famous 'red line' which broke all single-season scoring records.

It was a team that finished 60-11-3 and went to the U.S. Nationals where the team went 3-1-0.

Adam had 48 goals, second only to Josh Jasek's 61.

"Adam was a special skater everytime he hit the ice. He gave it his all, every shift," said Pallin.

From there, Adam went to the Global scouting camp where he was spotted by the coaches from Chilliwack Jr. A. Late in the tryout camp, Adam switched over to the Salsa which promised lots of playing time in the rugged, weekly BCHL wars.

With the help of Dennis Parker, who has assisted many Las Vegas skaters who make the giant step from midget to Jr. A hockey, Adam played on a team which included his former Las Vegas Mustang teammates Josh Jasek and Justin Johnson.

Now, Adam is skating on the top line with the Salsa.

So...is Adam dazzled by all of his success?

He laughed.

"You just deal with it," he said. "You hit the ice and you play..."

Rinkboard Notebook - Adam will skate one more season with Victoria Salsa Jr. A where another Las Vegas teammate, Eddie Samuels, will be with him next season...Then, it's off to Alaska where Adam will be a 'Nanook' in Fairbanks...Adam is the second Las Vegas skater to get a full-ride scholarship - the first being Micah Sanford, now a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

What An Absolutely Amazing Story!.....
LAS VEGAS MUSTANG SEAN FOX OUT OF RETIREMENT
OFF TO CANADA TO SKATE FOR PENINSULA JR. B!!!

By Lee Samuels

He got his game totally re-fired when he hit the ice at the first annual Las Vegas Alumni game during the Christmas holidays.

Sean Fox, a big, bruising right winger, buzzed around the rink that night and wondered why he ever left the game.

Now, Fox, 19, of Las Vegas is heading to Canada to skate with the Peninsula Panther J. B which includes Las Vegas goalie Paul Lowden and defenseman Alex 'Blackjack' Redmond.

"It's hard to believe...but I'm bigger, stronger and I want to play again," said Fox, 6'0 and 190. "I've been skating at practices with coach Rob (Pallin) and his Las Vegas Rebels team. I really thought I was doing pretty well....then I got a call from the coach from Peninsula who said they had one spot remaining.

"I immediately told him I wanted that spot."

Fox will leave Las Vegas on Thursday at noontime for Seattle, then take a flight to Victoria, B.C. to join his new team.

Pallin, who coached Fox two seasons with the AA Las Vegas Mustangs midget majors, said he is thrilled.

"He's strong, tough and won't back down to anyone," Pallin said. "Two years ago Justin Grossman, Sean Darby and Sean would go over the wall and just fire off some crunching checks. We had some big scorers on that team, but we wouldn't have won 60 games without Grossman, Darby and Fox doing that kind of work."

Pallin added "the other night Sean said he wanted more work on the ice because he didn't want to be an average player. He wanted to be an impact skater, makie a difference for a team.

"I'm excited as he must be," Pallin said.

Fox said he scored "a whole lot of goals" as a bantam skater in Las Vegas, but his role changed when he became a midget major player. He was a right winger who skated with heat and power on a checking line that was usually matched against top lines.

"Peninsula knows I can be physical - that's what they are looking for and that's what I'm going to give them," Fox said. "Remember, I was only 160 pounds when I was a Mustang midget skater. I've added another 25, 30 pounds to my frame."

He will live with the same billet area as Lowden, Redmond and Victoria Jr. A skaters Josh Jasek, Adam Naglich and Justin Johnson.

Notebook - At U.S. Nationals two years ago, Fox scored huge go-ahead goal, breaking a 2-2 tie with Palm Beach Panthers in a game eventually won by the Mustangs, 4-2.....At Peninsula, Fox is joining a top team which is an affiliate of the Victoria Salsa Jr. A of the BCHL....The Panthers, in their final home game of the season, take on the Parkville Generals on Friday night. On Sunday, the Panthers close out the regular season at Campbell River Storm....Then, it's playoff time......
